Norman Rockwell: Behind the Camera

I bought this book within 5 minutes of finding out about it. Thank you Ron Schick for this great contribution. I can see this book ending up on all artists bookshelves.

Being able to see the photographs that Rockwell painted from is a gift. I wish there were more books like this out there. It allows the student artist to see the proper way of using a photograph. It’s great to see the things Rockwell added and took away from the photo and trying to figure out why. Rockwell didn’t ‘copy’ his reference, but rather used it as a tool. The camera is just another eye with better memory for the artist to use. The camera doesn’t create the painting.

“I challenge anybody to show me when I started to use photographs. I’ve always been known as The Kid with the Camera Eye.”
