I’m teaching 3 art classes next semester at the Watts Atelier. Here’s a quick summary of each class. You can go to the school website to register. Classes start October 13th and run for 10 weeks.
Painterly Drawing
Mondays at 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Oct 13-Dec 14, 2009
This class is different from a normal Drawing class at the atelier because of it’s emphasis on tone. Instead of a linear drawing, we will use large shapes of tone as our lay-in. Students will be encouraged to loosen up and be more free with their strokes. We will experiment with a variety medium including charcoal pencils, vine charcoal, graphite, and white pencils on toned paper. Subjects will be live model, casts, and photos.
Head, Figure, Quicksketch
Wednesdays at 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM
Oct 15-Dec 16, 2009
This class is meant for students who want to take all 3 core classes in one. My schedule for this class is a little different from the way it’s usually organized:
Week 1 & 2 – Head Drawing
Week 3 & 4 – 20 Minute Head Lay-ins
Week 5 & 6 – Figure Drawing
Week 7 & 8 – 20 Minute Figure Lay-ins
Week 9 & 10 – Figure Quicksketch
Oil Painting Fundamentals
Fridays at 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Oct 17-Dec 18, 2009
This class is meant as an introduction of the oil medium to new painting students. We will go over materials, learn how to stretch a canvas, introduce 4 color palettes, and explore color theory. Our subjects will be still life, landscape and portrait. At the end of the semester students will paint from a master of their choice.
