I’m teaching 2 art classes next semester at the Watts Atelier. Here’s a quick summary of each class. You can go to the school website to register. Classes start July 13th and run for 10 weeks.
Portrait Drawing from Photos
Tuesdays at 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Jul 14-Sep 15, 2009
In the first week I will demonstrate from a photo, using the charcoal powder technique and graphite. The remainder of the semester will be broken up into 3 drawings (3 weeks each) with demonstrations scattered throughout the semester. I will provide photographs for the first drawing. After a lesson on choosing photo reference, students will choose their own photographs for the second and third drawings. We will study the tools and concepts needed to take a drawing to a photo-realistic finish. This class will be heavy on likeness, rendering, volumes, values and edges.
All drawings will be rendered using graphite pencils on bristol paper. Charcoal powder and brushes are optional.
Figure Drawing Essentials
Tuesdays at 2:30 PM – 5:30 PM
Jul 14-Sep 15, 2009
Students will be introduced to concepts that are necessary to understanding and drawing the human figure. This includes the mannequin, the abstraction, anatomical landmarks, weight and gesture, foreshortening and modeling form. Class work will be done from handouts, master studies, and finally the live model using both short and long poses. Instructor demonstrations and critiques are standard.
Perfect!
